I decided to try out a claim by another poster in another thread here at PT--that a canister filter can be used as a DE filter:

Yes, but that's a different setup. They use the micron filter in conjunction with the DE......roud:

I'm using just an xP3 w/ sponges, floss and Rena's micro-pads.
