i might be taking my nano-reef down to start a planted tank(cheaper lol) could i use this light i have. its 70w metal halide. i have it over my 14g AIO cube(wondering if i can use an AIO for this too)

Yes, you can, but that will be a LOT of light for a 14g tank.

Over a reef, that's perfect. Over a planted tank, you run the risk of having tremendous algae fights.


I highly suggest you look into using pressurized CO2, which is the only thing that will help keep you from having algae nightmares.

Also, swap out the bulb for a more daylight colored one if you are currently using one of the more common 14 or 20K bulbs.

Anything from 5500K to 10,000K will look fine. I prefer the 10,000K look, myself.


Finally, you may need to raise your light up higher than you had it with the reef, to cut down on the intensity, especially if you don't have pressurized CO2.
