Can I convert a CO2 regulator for aquarium?

I just bought a CO2 tank attached with a regulator for soda machine and was wondering if I can convert this to a planted tank? The only problem I have is that I have some pretty expensive fish that I do not want to kill. Has anyone tried converting this with success? If converting this CO2 regulator will be more than $50 dollars or more, I would rather just buy a JBJ regulator. Any suggestions would be great!

Yes actually you can run with just about any regulator that can bring the pressure down to about 10 PSI. You will just have to get a different nipple for the hose size and get a needle valve. Also a reactor or diffusion unit for actually getting the CO2 dissolved in the water. I almost forgot a bubble counter.
If you ever want to have your co2 come on and off by a timer or ph controller, you'd need a solenoid valve. That alone will run you about $30 to $40 dollars. I was looking into piecing together my own regulator but found that a good solenoid and needle valve alone got me close the a new milwakee regulator on ebay.
Thanks! I think I will skip the step of me trying to make one and just go with JBJ regulator!
10 PSI is a bit low. 20 PSI is better because the pressure jump will have a lower difference so the amount of CO2 going through the needle valve during a possible dump will not be so high.
