Butterfly algae eater?

2009 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  BentZero
LFS suggested I look into this fish when I told them that I'll need an algae eater when my tank cycles. I can't find any info on this fish. I'm assuming that it has a different name. Anyone heard of this fish? Any experience with it?

it is probably a butterfly loach or another name for it is Hillstream loach. Go to loaches.com they will help you out alot there.
Ottos and Bushy nose plecos are much better.

The hillstream loach does best in a very fast moving tank made just for them

Wouldn't look for them if I were you unless you can provide powerful currents and plenty of oxygen. I have them in my river setup.
I had one for about a year and a half.It wasnt a very good algae eater at all. They are an interesting fish though.
Hmm, I think I'll just stick with Otos. Thanks for the info guys.
