Bumblebee shrimp, info and pricing

I can find them localy at $2 each. Is that a good price?

Are they far different/more difficult/far different water parameters than cherry shrimp?

I'm thinking they will not interbreed, so that isn't an issue...umm, right?

That's a pretty good price. I've only seen them for $2.99 around here. They're same as crystal red shrimps, but different from cherry shrimp. So won't interbreed with RCS but will with CRS. ;)

I personally haven't found them any harder than cherry shrimps, especially if they're from LFS. Much hardier than CRS, trust me.
Haeun, I think you're referring to Bee shrimp which is mislabeled as Bumblebee shrimp at Aquatic Warehouse.

Now ingg, if you are really referring to bumblebee shrimp, they are supposed to be even harder to keep than CRS so good luck. If you're refering to Bee shrimp, then I think that they are less hardier than RCS but much more hardier than CRS.

One way to tell the difference is if the head's color is white. If the color is white, then it is a bee shrimp. If it's head it black first, then its a bumblebee. Also look at the tail. It should have 4 (I think 4) white spots on the tail tips if its a bee shrimp.
They have their own grades also. I was able to get some from a LFS for $1 each (group buy and got a hookup) and some are really low grade and others pretty good. I have them in a 10gal with minimi shrimp. They are in aquasoil with a sponge filter and have moss, leaves, and old filter floss. They are kept at room temp which varies from 75-80. Several of the females are carrying eggs so they must be doing ok :).
Alright, sorry, I did indeed mixed them up, bumblebee and bee. But then again, bee shrimps are much more common, and I would think that's what most people are talking about. They've been misnamed a whole bunch of things: zebra shrimp, bumblebee shrimp, etc, and I guess it's easiest to assume people are talking about bee shrimp.

It seems bumblebees are still in the Caridina family, so they would interbreed, but yea, you're right. They're a completely different species from bees, though Petshrimp says there are such thing as white-headed bumblebees!

There is no grading system for bumble bee shrimp. No such thing as C, B A, S.... grade of bumble bee shrimp.
I think he was talking about bee shrimps.
there may not be offical grades but there sure is a hell of a difference between the ones I have.

I am not doubting that. I think the reason that there is no grading is the white bands do not tend to get passed on to the following generations. There is a lot of variation no matter if the parents had good banding or not so good banding.
Thanks for the info folks!

I do not remember white dots on the tails, sat and watched them for a bit yesterday. I'll know for sure soon enough, plan to bring home 10 this weekend. :)
aw thanks ianiwane....I haven't gotten to the 2nd generation quite yet.
