What bulbs does everyone suggest that I buy to replace my two 50/50 bulbs? They are 65 watt PC lights too by the way
Thanks in advance,

Square pin [::] or straight pin [....] bulbs? Each type has a bulb that the other doesn't.

In the square pin you can get an 8800K bulb, which is a crisp white—but not blindingly so. This is my personal favorite bulb.

In the straight pin there's the GE AquaRay 9325K bulb—a somewhat acquired taste due to its pink/purple hue—but the plants love it and it can really make irredescent fish sparkle.

Then there are 6500/6700K (can be somewhat yellow/green in hue) and 10000K (may washout colors in shallower tanks) bulbs available for both.

Any of these will do. In the end it comes down to personal preference from an asthetic standpoint.
Coralife has a 65w Colormax/6700K bulb in straight or square pin arrangements.
It sucks that I can't find any of these in a 96 watt square pin.:thumbsdow

Well, the GE AquaRay are only made in 55w CF, but all the others come in 96w square pin configuration...well, not sure specifically about the Coralife, but 6500-6700K, 8800K and 10000K are available.

OOps. I meant I couldn't find anything beside 6500k/6700k/10000k/Colormax bulbs in a 96 watt square pin configuration.
Thanks Bill!

Try the 8800K bulb from Champion Lighting. It's a bit pricy at $30, but you can occasionally find them on ebay for half that.

I'll miss them should I ever convert my 36" fixtures to T-5.
Just got 2 of the 8800k 96 watt square pin bulbs for $17.90 each. Great deal!!!
Thanks Bill for the recommendation! I just got my 8800k bulbs in today and the coloration as WAY better with these bulbs over the 6700k, and 6700/10000k mix I had before. I even like it better than my old tank with a 65 watt 6700/10000k, and 55 watt 9325k Ge over a 37 gallon. Can't wai to see if it'll also help with plant growth.
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but with me wanting to change bulbs soon....

I just have to say this thread with the links and all has been most helpful for me! I have the coralife lunar aqualight, which takes the 2x96watt square pin CFs, and I looked in the past at changing the bulbs, but didnt have much luck

Now after seeing this thread and looking at the links, I would like to get the 10K/67K bulb, and one of the 88K bulbs for my fixture

Does anyone see a problem with this, or have suggestions that may be better for me?

I think this sounds good....but I really have no clue

Thanks very much
Eric
