I recently completely tore down my 5.5 gallon tank to change it up. New substrate, new plants, new brown algae phase. It wasn't unexpected, but now most of the blades of dwarf hairgrass are nearly covered with it. I just wondered if this affected too much the grass. Can it still get light through that crud? Anything I can do? I don't want it to die off. Thanks.

need more specs on your tank to accurately diagnose.

inhabitants
how old is the tank
substate
flora
CO2/noC02
light wattage, hours per day
ferts?

brown algae usually goes away by itself. I wouldn't worry about the hairgrass getting enough light.
