Well after Irene knocked our power out for almost 4 days, I finally have my tank back up and running "normally". In that time period, some brown algae (diatoms) has started to take hold on my glass. There's always been a very small amount in spots, but it was kept in check with the plants photosynthesizing--but that did not happen when the power was out, so this stuff must have multiplied. Also, this algae is only on the glass, none on the plants (knock on wood). Anyway, I have two questions here.

First, how do you remove this stuff? I just scrubbed the crap out of it with a sponge and it didn't do hardly a thing?!

Second, I am wondering if this is even diatoms at all... Apparently Otos love diatoms, but mine don't seem to touch it. Also, from what I've read, diatoms are easily removed from the glass, but like stated before, this stuff seems to be super-glued on the glass.

Any ideas?? Thanks!
