For those who may be interested, the BAS big fall auction is Friday Oct 9th.

BAS member get in free. For guest the entrance free is around $3. Free parking is available for those who have a car.

Perhaps those who would like to trade or meet up can meet in the parking lot around 7 pm?

More info can be found here

I will probably go and several other on this board may be there too. This is probably the closest that we get to a planted tank club! :)

Hey Levi, why do you say "masochist"? Do you think these events are a not worth the trouble?

To be honest, I haven't attended any yet, but what I hear from other aquarists is that it isn't worth going. It does seem most of the auctioned items can be easily found at an LFS, and at similar prices. Here's an earlier thread from someone who attended the last big auction if you want to get an idea of what it's like: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/new-york/86834-brooklyn-aquarium-society-2.html

On the other end though, it does seem like you could make quite a killing if you auctioned off your own items there.

I been to one, but it was one of their regular auction, not one of their two big auctions. Their regular auction is nothings special, perhaps their big auction will have more exotic stuff. If I understand correctly, only BAS makes money from the auction, because all auction items must be donated to them first.

I don't know.. what was posted on the other thread doesn't seem very encouraging.. $20 Bristlenose pleco, $8 Amazon sword, $5 Duckweed.. and that's from their last big auction. And too bad you can't auction for money.. seems like that would've been a decent reason to go.

But I'm hearing some of my relatives may come into town later this week, I might go just to avoid them.. gosh I'm awful.

I'm suppose to be going with a PT member. If I do go, I'll be bringing a few plants and maybe some fish. This will be my second time going, I do enjoyed myself last time.

Its was pretty cool. I only picked up a few xenotoca goodeid eiseni for $7 a pr of killifish for $6 (haven't checked to see what type yet). They had a lot of angels, discus, whiptails, guppies.Nothing I would consider exotic, but a decent amount of things.Only plants where crypts, java moss and duckweed. Anyone looking for plants would have been extremely upset lol. The worst part was taking the train home, then a shuttle bus, then a walk and another bus. Smh

I went too and the livestock selection was rather bland. There was free food and an 8 gal biocube door prize, and a few laughs during the auction. It was great meeting up with qckwzrd and another person from the forum.

I will not go again for a while, if ever.

I agree with being bland. I really go for the laughs lol. Everyonce in a while you may get something different. I don't think I'll be going to the next one but I will be going in the future, just won't be taking the train.
