Bristlenose Eggs Hatched

3959 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Fishnshrimp2
My Bristlenose Plecos first successful hatch, sort of. I had to put the eggs in a separate aquarium as my fish always kicks the eggs out of the cave for some reason. Anyhow they hatched today :grin2:. What should I use as their first food once they start eating?
Photos aren't too good but you can see them(the yellow dots).

Congratulations. My BN's had a few spawns and one was also kicked out of the bamboo tube they were in. I scooped them up into a mesh breeder hanging inside the tank and they did great - all hatched and survived. This was a few years ago and I can't remember exactly what I fed, but probably some finely crushed flakes, frozen baby brine shrimp, maybe some Hikari First Bites.
Thanks I'll try those foods. There is about 15-20 of them. I hope they all make it!
Oh I forgot to mention they are albino bristlenose plecos:)
That tank looks a little big for baby bristlnoses. They won't be able to find the food and will just gradually disappear. Put them in a small tank, 2-1/2 gallon works. Could use a large Marina box too. When their yolk sac is all gone, put a small chunk of Zucchini in there. Replace the Zucchini every day so there is always some for them to eat.

Thanks for the advice! This is my first time caring for baby plecos. I had most in a breeder net but one side was under water and a few darted out. I just bought a zucchini today based on what I've read about plecos.
I got most of them in a new breeder net, but here is a photo of a few before I caught them

They are growing so fast!

The babies won't have difficulty finding food's in a mature tank.
They will feed from the biofilm on substrate, glass, plant leaves, wood, rock's.
Zuchinni placed on the substrate at same spot, will allow them to associate the spot with food in short order.
As most of us never clean the back glass, this will be where the biofilm is more abundant.
babies as small as those in photo are snack's for most fish and is only reason I might remove them from the tank they hatched in.
Also good news that vegetable matter like zuchinni (sp),, does not contain the animal protein's that fish food's often contain so the vegetable matter can be left in the tank overnight or all day without worry.
They will eat all day when this tiny, and once the yolk is consumed, so it is good idea to have some algae wafer's or vegetable matter available pretty much all day.

Thank you roadmaster for your advice. There were a few I could not get into the net and was a little worried but not now. The tank was empty before the fry, except for a few snails, and it is over a month old and cycled. I may have to move the snails as they swarm any vegetable I put in there.
