Breeding in my nano?

1292 Views 8 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  MJay-FishyFreak
Hello,

I am if there are any good choices to put in my 6 gallon tank that would breed and still be ok. Something interesting and possibly colorful? Any suggestions or tips on nano tank breeding would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Don't breed guppies in a 6g tank unless you plan to move the fry to bigger tanks in a month or so....or maybe you only had 4 fry to grow. The juvie fry eventually will die or get stunted due to excess bio-load.

Endlers will fill-up the tank very quickly because they don't eat fry (unlike most guppies), and those same fry will sexually mature quite early and start breeding as well.

I have not raised cherry barbs, but a good friend does, and he explained to me that unless the tank is big (20g or more), a pair will keep on chasing each other and possibly stress each other too much, and can make them vulnerable to disease. Imagine the stress when they chase each other non-stop on a small 6g.
If you're looking for a challenge, dwarf puffers would be cool. White clouds are really easy to breed.

You can BREED guppies and endlers in a 6 gallon tank, but of course you cant' keep the fry there. Can you honestly think of any fish that you wouldnt' ever have to pull the fry in a 6 gallon tank?

And as far as the cherries, I've got a sexually mature, and breeding pair in a 10 gallon tank that is lightly planted, and unless they want to get it on (which is rarely), they completely ignore each other. Then again, they do have dither fish in there as well (well...german rams, but they do act as dithers)
nano breeding

i had about 6 neons in a 6 gal with a piece of driftwood covered with java moss, the water was murky due to the drifwood, ( i've heard neons like the water like that for breeding ) soon enough i noticed babies swimming in the tank, the surviving ones were removed and put in my 20 gallon tank. this just happened and i didn't plan on it happening, but i was very happy cause i can now say i've bred fish:hihi:
