Brand new tank bowing?

4160 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  John Wong
Just bought a 29 gallon from Carolina biological supply and it looks like is has a slight bow on the front. I would say 1/16th of an inch. Should I be concerned? It is level.

If it is rimless and filled with water 1 or 2 mm bow of front and back panel is normal

i would be concerned. none of my tanks ever show a bow.

20g high & long
40g long
55g
100g
Err... That strange, when water pressure apply a force to the panel it bows. The question is how much. If your tank is rimless and filled with water width at the centre must more than width at the side. It's physics.....how thick is your glass and how tall is it?? Is your tank with rim or without.

Please give more on the tank specs. A little bit of bowing is normal, especially if it rimless.

This ^^ including the thickness of the glass. Like John Wong states the crucial dimensions are the height of the tank and the thickness of the glass.

Dan

It's perfect level side to side but a tad bit unlovely front to back.

It looks like it is bowed in to me. (maybe???). That is fairly level. I would say it could be the stand, floor, or change in flooring that makes it a little un-level. My 38Gallon is less level than that with no issues, other than I know. But in my case it is the carpeting underneath and the furniture it is on that is causing it. I really don't think it is a problem, but others would know better than I would.

That's side to side. Might be a little off. I've bout had with this [censored][censored][censored][censored]!

What brand tank? Oops. See the brand. Rimless or not? Dimensions? Specs?

29 gal with a rim

I think it's normal. Those rim of your tank I think just for aesthetic purpose and possess no structural function.

My rimless DIY tank, also bowing a bit. Dimension 90*25*25 6mm glass if I remember it correctly. Difference between A and B is 2-3mm

What is the difference of A - B of your tank?
