Blue Ram and my HC

I don't know what to do with this fish. I've had him for over a year but now he is driving me crazy.

I bought HC the first time and it would never stay down, never seem to root. I didn't know what it was until I caught my ram pulling up the little plants.

I bought potted HC about a month later with the idea that I would keep small bunches still rooted to the rockwool as an anchor. He still managed to rip them up.

So I bought a breeder trap. Kept the ram in there and let the HC root. It really started to fill in nicely and after a week and a half I let him out last night. Well today I woke up and half the HC is floating.

I sit here and watch him rip it up. He really goes all out. Ramming the ground to get it all out and shredding the HC whens its floating. Why does my stupid little fish hate this plant so much.... Is there anything I can do?

Rams breed on bare gravel, flat spots, so he might be trying to make one.
I think you might be right. A month or two ago he created a crater in the substrate which I thought might have been a nest but I filled that back in. Is there anyway to discourage this?
You could always add some slate, which they may use for spawning. I personally have used a piece of driftwood with a few craters in it which have been used but, if they prefer the gravel, there's no real way to stop it. :icon_wink
Well thank you fishscale and digsy. Theres flat rocks in there already so I guess hes just going to keep ripping out the HC. This is a plant I wanted to try for a long time.

He is my favorite fish, I think he knows it too so he does stuff like this knowing I won't give him away.
