I currently have 2 empty tanks a 10 and a 5 gal that I'm thinking of doing shrimp only. I'm thinking very minimalistic look, maybe a rock or piece of driftwood and some moss. I have a heater, hob and lights. Now the question is what tank would you use and how would you set it up from substrate to species! Lets here some ideas. And before it gets too crazy NO I'm not buying $80 a piece shrimp

alot will depend on what kind of shrimp you want to keep. different shrimp need different water parameters. neos are great to start with and lots of different colors to choose from. or you can go with tiger shrimp not the fancy ones like oebt or black or red just regular tigers. low grade crystal reds are pretty easy and you can adjust water for them pretty well. if you need lower ph and want to try a-s grade crystals you can use cheap fluval shrimp stratum. my bag was a good one and takes the ph pretty low and has been doing so for just about a year. so i guess the first thing would be to pick what shrimp you want to try and then go from there on substrate but do get a pre filter sponge so shrimps dont get sucked into the intake of the filter and you really shouldnt need a heater for shrimp most of them like it pretty cool say 65-70 degreese

Yes I realize all of this. I want them all lol. My cherries are basically non exist ant in my 45 planted so I want to set up smaller where I can actually see and enjoy them. I am leaning towards taibees but looking for ideas.

So taibees as in Taiwan bees or Tibees? Parameters will vary depending on which and will probably affect folks' suggestions for substrate

No doubt blasphemous to serious aquarists, but I've been sooo tempted to set up a small tank with rolling hills of carpetting, a christmas moss tree and then stock it with one of the varieties of black and white shrimp.

The tricky part, of course, would be finding tiny cowbells for them to wear.

Want a simple answer for a simple question? Go with the 10 gal tank (better control over water perimeters), dark inert substrate (helps keep colors on shrimp) look for dark/deep colored neo shrimp (painted cherry reds or fire yellows) low cost shrimp with easy care! Any moss will do but if you got a choice look for fissidents they don't need much light and attach to anything. As for driftwood, two or three pieces of cholla soaked overnight in warm water (doesn't have to be warm) that should be all you need for nice shrimp tank! Start with a dozen and in a couple months you'll be enjoying baby shrimps! e
