So, i was thinking of buying some black vinyl pond tubing for my rena as the replacement ones are too expensive. Is it ok to use in aquariums? here is the link of what i was looking at.

It should work, even the clear ones. Good thing about black is you don't see the sludge buildup.
Any vinyl tubing should work just fine. Just check the ones you get for flexibility. I noticed that the tubing from hardware stores tend to kink easily. The braided pvc tubing works great but a bit pricey. Personally, whenever I get tubing I buy the Lee's brand pond tubing. It's black, flexible, and doesn't kink easily. The biggest plus is that it is cheap, $0.50/ft for 5/8". You should be able to get that stuff at any decent lfs.
Do they have the black ones in 1/2"? I dunno why Eheim had to come up with 2 different size hoses :D

There are two different wall thickness of the vinyl ones from the hardware stores. Just make sure your fittings can accomodate the added thickness.

the lee's black pond hose also comes in 1/2" id. replace that awful green eheim tubing and be done with it. i use it with the quick disconnects, it's fairly thin walled (maybe a tad thicker than the eheim tubing).
The thin wall tubing from hardware stores will not handle the suction from a Rena Filstar XP3.
My suggestion is to take the fittings with you, and get thick wall materials.
A few drops of olive oil will help the tubing slip over the fittings.
