black lights

will things such as black lights, orange lights, actinics etc hurt a planted tank? i read that actinics dont help the plants at all. but colored lights, will they inhibit growth or promote growth of funky algae? can we use it just for fun color accents? in biology last semester we did a bunch of experiements on how fish are affected by colored lights, im looking for those results right now.

I doubt it will hurt anything... but some algaes are more oppurtunistic with a wider spectrum of light they can utilize, not really sure if it would be a problem anyways - but shouldnt be a problem unless your going run a crazy amount of wattage with these lights.
