Yesterday I added a large rock with java ferns attached to my 8 gallon low tech bowl. I moved a couple things around and must have caused a mini cycle. This morning the embers were hanging out up at the surface and seemed a bit stressed, so I did at 75% wc right away. And then in a moment of distraction, the betta got sucked into the tube! Holy crap, the stress.

I didn't know what to do, so I blew him out into the bucket and then put him back into the bowl. He looks shocked, but for the most part looks okay. He lost a good patch of scales on top of the head and behind the gills though, so I have begun dosing with diluted Melafix. I will continue 50% daily water changes this week. Anything else I can do? Poor fish.

By the time I noticed he was a third of the way through the tube as all I could think to do was blow him through the rest of the way. I thought going backward would injure his fins.

Melafix diluted to 20% is supposed to be fine for Bettas. I've used it once before when I first got him and he developed fin rot.

It really does feel awful. My toddler was "helping" with the wc so I was paying more attention to keeping the bucket from being knocked over. Thanks for the moral support! I think he will be okay. He is swimmin around, looking for food, and seems to be getting his colour back. He has never looked so drained and pale. Kind of like me after it happened!

Had this EXACT same thing happen with one of mine. Beat him up a little, but he was ok in a week or two. I used melafix as well, but very diluted. Get your temps up if they arent already, and a small ammount of aquarium salt will also help. They sure do sneak up on those tubes dont they! Such a curious fish :D

I was pulling fish out of my 29g, it was late and I should have waited. I pulled the last one down and set the net on a towl next to the tank. Walked away for about 30-45min, came back to feed the betta and didnt' see him in the tank. Looked over and he was in the net. I don't know how I grabbed him and didn't see it. I put him back into the tank and he was fine. Hardy little fish.

Wow. That is amazing. Okay, now I'm feeling hopeful that I didn't kill my kid's fish.

One of mine spent 20 minutes on the carpet once when he jumped. Had to use a spoon to scrape him up from behind an unmovable credenza.

Dunked him in tank water to get the fluff off, and back into the tank. He was totally fine, although his fins looked a bit ratty for about a month.

Hardy little guys.

I put a baby betta in my 20g community tank and couldnt fine him for about 48hrs, finally I started looking around a lot closer and found him/her in my Aquaclear 50. He got sucked up the intake and was swimming around under the foam pad along with a Scarlit badis. Scared the beejeebees out of me. Both were pale for awhile but perked back up and the Betta turned blue within about 30min. Ate right away as well. (I have since put a pre filter sponge on the intack.)
