Siamese Algae Eater. For some reason i always get a hair algae outbreak on all my new setups for a few weeks, so as soon as the tank is cycled i add one two of these fish along with my cleanup crew and they take care of it really well.
Okay, that's my situation. New tank and a slight hair algae outbreak. I already have Nerite Snails, Cory Habrosus, Bristlenose Pleco, Otto, Panda Garra and Cherry Shrimp, but they all seem to ignore the hair algae.
Have you tried reducing light intensity or duration? Tackling the root cause of any algae is a better approach rather than finding livestock to take care of it.
Yeah, I have 2 Fluval Plant 3.0 over a 26 gallon high bow front tank. The hair algae is mostly in the back on the java moss. I have reduced the duration of the back light and removed all of the blue light. The front of the tank seems fine.
I have found that reducing light to no more than 8 hours per day, regular fertilization, and changing at least 25% of the water weekly is fairly effective, along with manual removal when possible.
I won't judge people who feel differently, but I would not put something in my tank to control algae if I wouldn't want it if there was no algae.
In my experience here in South America, the best fish for this case (hair algae) are the otos (Otocinclus affinis) and a related species that the fish stores sells from time to time (Parotocinclus sp)
