Hi all,

New to this forum so dont know if this is in the right section.

Iv just set up a new 35l Arcadia arc tank with the standard light.

Im using a diy 2l bottle for the co2. I have a couple of different diffusers already but unsure which ones the best, anyone have any advice? I have the below diffusers at home.


Fluval 20 duffuser (upside down cup type)


JBL Proflora Taifun (sprial type)

Glass ceramic Jbl taifun P (glass type, currently using, dont think the diy creates enough pressure for it to work tho)

Your limited in diffusers when doing a diy co2 setup. It just doesn't have the pressure behind it to push co2 out. DIY co2 is meant for small setups,low tech or just to see how co2 can benefit your plants. A glass diffuser is one route. A diy diffuser using an aquarium vac tube and power head is another option that I have seen a time or two if your watching your budget.

I have found that by stuffing a clean cigarette filter into the end of the co2 tube. The filter makes nice tiny bubbles and helps to maintain a steady flow.

I position the diffuser so that the water flow from my HOB filter pushes the bubbles around my tank. I get great plant growth and my co2 indicator shows no deficiency or spike. One 1.7L bottle of DIY CO2 lasts me about 3 weeks.

I used to use DIY, I had the tube going directly into the inlet, I'm now using pressurized and a glass deffuser, I would reccomend switching as DIY is a real pain i wouldn't bother again.

I use the Hagen Elite Underwater Mini Filter as my diffuser. Do a search on here and some place it's done with pictures as it also is on utube. Basically you attach your CO2 tube to the intake and remove the inside sponge and put it on the outtake. Sells for $16 on Amazon.

Im currently using the upside down cup type of diffuser, how effective is that at dissolving the co2?
