Same here, once it gets about 4-5" from the surface it bends, roots shoot out, and then I end up with new plants growing from the stem. That is on rotala rotundifolia.
Heh. I've been pruning and replanting religiously. I have a nice, low rotala forest, but cant get them too high. Hoping the tiger lilly provides some shade in the future. Mine are rotala gia lai, mexicana araguia and colorata.
Mine grow straight to the surface. The trick for me was Direct even lighting. If any of my floating plants get in the way they start to bend & anywhere where the light is more intense the rotala grows in that direction
