bearded dragon!

I just got a bearded dragon today.

He is a couple months old, about 6-7" long. I am currently keeping him in a 20 long with lots of tiered rocks.

When he gets bigger I will switch him to a 40 breeder.

He is really awesome, very curious and active. I am feeding him crickets and some collard and mustard greens.

I will post pics when I can find my camera...in the meantime post pics of your beardie!

Here's my girl Zelda on my dog Dusty. She's in a 40 breeder and loves her crickets, mealworms and salad. I love beardies!

I use to have one, eat like a pig didn't take him long till he was big.
I feed my roaches ^^
Sweet pic haha. Your aussie doesn't look to happy though :) I have two aussie shepherds as well, awesome dogs.
I read that mealworms can be bad for them...I was hesitant to feed any to the little guy because of that.

Yeah this guy seems like a piggy as well. He polished off 30 crickets today, I am going to have to start breeding crickets because that will break the bank.

I have some hissing cockroaches that have been spitting out babies like no tomorrow, I was thinking about putting the babies in the tank but I was worried that their shell might be too much for the beardie. They have a much tougher shell than the dubia.
Oh, very cool that you have aussies too! Dusty is my second one, he's very tolerant...my 1st was also a blue merle but he passed away from cancer :( They're amazing dogs.

I had heard things about mealworms...I don't give her much, mainly it's for "texture" in her salad lol.

When it's warm out, we get her in her little harness and she races around eating bugs. She's crazy fast - you wouldn't know it to look at her! She loves dandelions too and darts around eating them.

Looking forward to pics of your dogs and your beardie!
Yeah I have a blue merle and a red merle, they are absolutely fantastic energetic dogs.

My beardie is doing well, I gave him some superworms yesterday and he seemed to really like those. But I am getting 1000 crickets in the mail today, so he will be on a heavy cricket diet until he gets bigger.

I look forward to when my beardie is an adult and I can put him on a leash to take him outside haha.
I have a crested gecko and bumble bee toads!
Awesome! Do you have pics?

I took my beardie outside today in the backyard. He was romping around in the grass. I don't know if this common to all beardies, but he sleeps in the weirdest positions. Right now he is asleep in the corner of the tank, on his hind legs, arms spread out, pressed right up against the glass...

These guys have a ton of personality, I need to find a name for him. He has a lot of red in him so I was thinking 'captain red beard'...captain for short, I don't know I will have to test it out for a couple days.
Oh yeah, Zelda sleeps like she's dead! Freaked me out once! She likes to get up in the corner too, head up, arms and legs out.
beardies are great! i have my year (two month, two days xD) old in a 72 gallon palace that we had for our previous beardie (we didn't know what we were doing, he was our first reptile at all and i'm really surprised he lived the 7 YEARS oh my god i wrote months afkjhgdkd he did)
a good alternative to mealworms, if you just want to throw in some easy fat/protein is waxworms, sometimes labeled as "bee moths." i buy all my bugs for veronica (my beardie) at a bait shop, loads cheaper and more convenient than a pet store :p

Good idea for the bait shop, I will check them out. I just got 1000 crickets from a reptile store nearby for $15 but I would say 25% of them were dead...
Here are some pics of the Captain, they are crappy pics from a camcorder but I wanted to share :)

I am not sure why the pics came out the way they did...kind of cartoony. Anyways, you can sort of see the orange color down his back, looks like he has some sort of color morph in his genes somewhere along the line.

It seems like the crickets are doing him well though, he is pooping more than when I first got him. He is active and curious and is eating well. I took him outside on the grass the other day, I think it was sensory overload for him haha.

for a beardie that size, are you getting less than full-size crickets? i've found that the bigger ones can be a real problem for smaller beardies... also try and feed him vegetable matter (turnip greens are really great and CHEAP) if you haven't!
sorry if i'm being preachy, just i'd hate to do/have anybody do what i did the first time i had a beardie again D:
no problem, I understand! I have done all my research to try and avoid the bearded dragon equivalent of keeping an oscar in a 10 gallon tank :)

I am feeding him 1/4" crickets and a mix of mustard and collard greens with everything dusted in a calcium supplement. I was worried that he was going to get impacted because the previous owner was only feeding him meal worms, but he seems to be pooping quite well so I would say he has a pretty clean digestive tract.

He loves the crickets but hasn't really touched the greens yet.

I also set up a contraption that holds icecubes which melt and drip into his water bowl to create a ripple. He seems to drink alot with my little set-up. I am also misting him a couple times per week.

Lol...He got one too :) Such a good boy for not eating my Zelda!

Little Captain is ADORABLE. Whatta cutie!
Little Captain is plumping up nicely. I think he is benefiting greatly from the crickets and additional calcium supplement. His little spindly legs are not looking as spindly anymore.

He is getting really feisty as well, cruising around the tank jumping off the rocks. A fly got into his enclosure yesterday and he spent about an hour trying to catch it...he finally nabbed in mid flight as he leapt from a rock...pretty cool to watch haha.

These guys are awesome, super friendly. I will take him out and pet him when I watch TV at night and he will fall asleep on my chest!
So glad to hear Captain is doing well! They can be quite the little hunters - Zelda caught a bee once, freaked me out, but man was she fast!

I put Zelda up to the fish tank and she was following their swimming - back and forth back and forth...so cute.
