I've wanted to get a pair of turtles for a long time - but 90 gallons just doesn't seem like enough for two turtles. Also, most of the 150 gallon tanks just don't seem to have much surface area. So, what about a bathtub? If it were porcelain I could even plumb the bottom so I don't have cords running everywhere.

You can get plastic 150+ gallon stock tanks from your local feed store.

What type of turtle are you looking to get? You can probably do a pair of smaller species such as mud/musk turtles in a standard 90g tank.
I was thinking red eared sliders or paintes turtles

If you get EPT, then you can fit it in a 90G, considering that it is a male. RES, you'll need a bigger tank that's for sure.
