Somehow I always seem to kill this plant. I think they are cool looking too I just have a black banana thumb. Lol
I just bought a baby banana plant. It only had 3 little leaves on it. In the week and a half since i bought it i have seen 2 New leaves grow. This is my first time growing this plant. it seems kinda easy but we will see in a few weeks
Hi Aqua07,

Banana plants (Nymphoides aquatica) are fun plants but my experience is after the first flush of leaves most of the leaves the plant puts out are 'lily pads' that just float on the surface and block the light to the plants below.

I have grown Nymphoides sp. 'Taiwan' for the last several years; the plant is less inclined to put up 'lily pads' but the leaves are much softer and it doesn't ship well so it is not typically grown commercially and not readily available except in clubs and hobby forums. I really like the leave shape and lime green color.

If you've got a healthy plant, propogation is as easy as snipping off one of the mature leaves, leaving a long stem, and letting it float in the tank until new roots start at the end of the stem.

I don't tend to run high enough lights in my tanks for these to do well for me, but I had a couple in a window sill glass vase that I was able to get four or five rooted stems from for friends before I passed it on to someone who wanted a bigger specimen for his tank.
Mine stay low with big green leafs. I propagate them by floating leaf clippings as well, but I don't really have a tank to grow out the little plants.

I'm not sure though of the clippings will grow the characteristic banana tubers though.
