Ballast trouble?

1256 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  mmelnick
Hi folks,

I just plugged in my original Hagen glo t5 HO and it didn't work. When I took it out of service 7 months or so ago it was working fine. Today it lights for about a second then goes out. Bulbs are working in my other fixture, so what do you think - ballast?

Thanks,
AB

If the bulbs work in another fixture, and the wiring is intact and not corroded, you've defined ballast failure.
On the good side it will only cost you about $25 to replace the ballast this year. Last year it would have been about $40.
Thanks db. Figured there isn't much else that can fail.
Btw, anyone know where to get Hagen ballasts, or can I just take it to home depot and get similar specs?

Glo T5 HO Electronic Ballast for 2X 54 Watt T5 HO Fluorescent Bulbs - Glo A1558

Sell the end caps and cords, from your old fixture to recoup some of your money.

I don't think Home Depot carries many T5 HO ballasts. At least they don't here.

I would look at this as the perfect time to upgrade and overdrive those bulbs! Unless you don't need a bit more light.
