I bought and planted some baby dwarf grass from my LFS in my 4 gallon 3 week old tank. Before I planted I rinsed off the plant and in doing so I found a bunch of small grayish pebbles. Some were hard some were soft. I assumed they could be eggs and I thought I washed them all off but today I see this swiming in my tank. What is this? And I am very surprised it is this big if it was just born.

Yes, it's a snail. They can get to a decent size without you ever noticing that they exist. Sometimes they just aren't out when you're looking until one day BAM! :)

Yep it's a pond snail. As long as there's not too much decaying plant matter/food you shouldn't have to worry about overpopulation. I find them in my tanks every few days and crush them for my fish and shrimp to have as snacks.
