Just restarted my Finnex due to a bad batch of substrate (thanks to the shady LFSs in Louisiana). Starting this journal in hopes that viewers can point me in the right direction for plant and scape suggestions. I'm on the hunt for a mini driftwood stump for this tank so if anyone knows where to get something like that let me know. I really really need small drift wood to add to this tank. Its really bare and basic right now.

Tank: Finnex 4 gallon
Filter: PX-360 canister
Light: 26watt Epoch Clip Light
Substrate: Eco-Complete
CO2: NRG pressurized, nano diffuser, 30bpm
Ferts: N, P, K, and Micros every 6 days
Flora: Baby Java Fern, Glosso, Dwarf Hairgrass, X-mas moss, and Riccia.

Nice Finnex you got there!

For driftwood, have you considered a manzanita root chunk? Those are pretty cool looking. Also, if you check the Swap & Shop forum here, there are several guys who sell driftwood pretty regularly (just do a quick search there) and I bet you'd find something good there too.

You're right it does need more shrimp! So who's gonna give me a great deal on some RCS???? PM me if you got em. I've got some in my other 24gal nano but for some reason they aren't breeding anymore.

Heres a new pic of my Finnex as of this morning. I pulled out the glosso and put in HC and a few stemmies (can't remember what the other plants were). Trying some Riccia tied to a suction cup just to see what happens.

I've always wanted to get a finnex 4 gallon. Your tank should look really sweet once the plants fill in. Keep us updated.

I'd suggest individually planting your stem plants... instead of in bunches. You'll have improved growth and it will spread much easier. Reducing the likelihood of having rot and algae growth on the bottom portions.

On a side note how is the flow on the filter that comes with that tank is it excessive? Was looking at grabbing a Finnex setup soon

Good idea about planting the stems seperatly. As soon as a get back from underway I'l tear them out and replant.

As for the filter I really think that the canister filter is perfect, it moves the water enough but doesn't stir the tank up. The canister makes it possilble for you to use lily pipes if you're willing to fork over the dough.

The kit comes with a spray bar and an elbow flow thingy. I've used the spary bar and it increases flow even more but looks bulky in the tank and tends to stir things up at the wrong angle. The elbow flow attachement is perfect and looks sharp.

awight: Would 9mm lily pipes work with the canister filter? I've been trying to search and find the tubing size of the canister filter to try to answer it but haven't had much success. This answer would help me out a lot. Trying to decide if the canister filter will get the job done and work with lily pipes, or if I should purchase the cheaper HOB model and switch it out for an Eheim 2211.

Sorry I'm not sure. The tubing is 1/2 inch for the canister which is 12.7mm. I think 9mm would work as the end of the lily pipe is inserted into the tube. Can anyone else clarify on this? Thanks from us both!

Others have used only the HOB filter with great success. I like the extra capacity of the canister so water parameters stay consistent longer. Plus choosing your media type and amount is a great selling point for me for the canister filters.
