Looks like either staghorn or hair algae. If it's branching, staghorn. I can't tell 100% from the pic. This stuff loves ammonia, so it shows up often in new tanks. Ottocinclus' won't eat it. Best way I've found to get rid of it is to increase CO2, spot dose with excel, or both. If it is indeed a newer tank, it may go away on its own over time, so you could just spot dose to get rid of what's there. It's hard to remove it manually.
Oh god, get rid of this quick, there's really no way to kill this, only manual removal. I had this for a while, the only way I got rid of it was by tearing down the tank.

Only one tip... Burn it with fire.
Relax. What are the parameters of your tank? Lights, photo-period, CO2 fertilizer regimen, substrate, how long has the tank been set up, inhabitants ect ect

ya sorry i tried to post my tank specs when i posted this but the only pic i had was too big and i had to run
okay so its a 20 gallon started on the sep. 8th so like 3 weeks. 2x 24W T5 coralife fixture which i have on from 8 to 8. i try to turn the room light on at 6 and off at 10. i have a 150 penguin filter. and a jager heater at about 75 ish. i have yeast CO2 in a hagen natural co2 system running up a bubble latter at about one bubble every 7 seconds and the bubble is almost nothing at the top. about 90% gone. (my co2 isn't actually running at the moment cuz i took it apart to add a bubble counter to catch the gunk. was getting whispy white stuff coming outta it.) i also back up my CO2 with 2ml of excel every morning. and i dose about one and a half ml of regular flouish every thursday and sunday. Eco complete substate

As to biotics i have 3 otos which have been in for about a week and a half. they seem to be doing well. actually look better than they did when i bought them from petsmart (LFS doesn't sell otos :angryfire:angryfire:angryfire). last weekish i got 7 serpae tetras. had 3 shrimp that i bought like 2 days after i started the tank but they died off :( also have hc that i'm trying to get to carpet. temple plant i think they're called (hygrophila corymbosa). and lots o' long whispy things (wacaya?)

when i went in to get the tetras i had the guys test my water (since they do it for free) the guy said almost 0 ammonia. very few nitrites and a bit more nitrates than i should but should settle out soon. had him run a high pH test because mines always the highest reading but its only barely above. maybe 7.7ish

hope thats enough info lol. if its not tell me anything else you need to know. thanks in advance for all the help!!

Sounds like too much light for DIY CO2 and Excel. You might think about running only one T5HO in a 20g high. I have a similar setup and saw an improvement once I removed one bulb from my fixture.

A 7-8 hour photoperiod is also better.

I also reduced surface agitation by putting sponges on the outlets of my hang-on-back filters. This meant less CO2 gassing off at the surface.

I'm not sure how efficient the ladder is compared to a small powerhead, but I prefer the latter.

Edit: And by latter, I mean a small powerhead.
Don't add any more fish yet. I'll bet that your tank is not completely cycled yet and if it was adding 7 tetras at once will cause a mini cycle. Hyzer is spot on cut back to 7-8 hours with only 1 bulb.
Agree that it is probably too much light, not enough CO2. Cut light, increase CO2 and try to remove as much algae as possible manually. Twirling it around a toothbrush to pull it out usually works pretty well with hair algae.

Also agree that you need to add fish slowly to a new tank. The filtration is not ready to process all of the waste yet.
one light is only 1.4W per gallon  seems kinda low
but i'm not really one to question the veterans lol
which should i take out? i think one is a 10,000k and one is some kinda bluelight thing

i already have my water level above my output. should i reduce it more??
and do you know if thats bad for my oto's? they're supposed to like agitation

LMAO!

The old WPG rule really doesn't apply to T5 fixtures. Check out this thread for more info:

Bluelight sounds like an actinic, which is for a salt water tank. Won't provide much light that plants can use, though I've heard claims that algae does well with it...
