normally when i ship something someone bought off me in the sns i just print the shipping labels at home and mail from there. recently i had a few transactions that required larger accomodations then the bubble mailer. when i went to the post office packed up my priority box taped it up and put on the shipping info sticker and got to the counter they asked me the normal "is anything in the box flamable, perishable, so on and so forth....well you obviously know what i sad as my paskages are on their way to their new homes.

what would have happened if i said yes????

I put perishable and Fragile , Jus the fun of it when i ship shrimps just to make sure.
Nothing will happen unless you say something stupid
I tell the post office all the time what I am shipping, whether it be fish or plants. All they are concerned with is if it dangerous. If it is really hot, they have me ship express and not priority, but that hasn't been a problem.
The reason they ask if there is liquid is because if it leaks and they don't know what it is, they'll have to handle it likes it could be something hazardous. If you tell them its water, then they'll know. For awhile, I said no to everything, but I finally realized that I should be truthful about the liquid. Who knows what would happen if it leaked.....

When I ship fish, I say perishable and fragile, just so they'll (hopefully) handle the package carefully.
well looks like i get a chance to go to the post office tomorrow and be honest, hopefully they wont deny me or slap me! :hihi:
according to the Postal regulations,
any priority box under 11oz can be
dropped in any regular mail box, so
basically it's none of their business
what's in it. what I do is buy those
"airplane" stamps with $4.60 postage.
that way I never have to deal with
counter people. if you are lucky, the
post office has a package accepting
machine, and you can send anything
the fits in the enlarged slot. so if you
don't want to be put in a position to
lie to someones face, use a machine
or buy priority stamps a head of time.
if you don't have a postage scale at
home or work, most post offices leave
one laying around the ticket counters.
go buy a digital food scale on ebaY for
under $20, which sounds like a lot, but
it pays for itself after a few dozen SnS.
I'm really glad I purchased mine cause
it helps me keep my packages under a
weight milestone like an oz or lb, thus
saving me on postage overages.

thanks spy, i have a digital scale like that it measures ounces and grams (a nice wedding present). normally when someone gets something from me from the sns ill use pp, or if its a trade ill have them send me .01 so i can still print a shipping label from the pp site.

the main reason for starting this tread was to find out what would happen if i said i had plants, and as it turns out.....nothing bad.
Our post office has a kiosk, so I always use that. For some reason, even if the line for the windows/tellers is out the door, there may only be one or two people waiting for the machine. It's much faster, so that's the main reason I like it.

Because a lot of people are just clueless when it comes to machines. And I suppose it's barely possible that a lot of those people may be coming in to pick up a package behind the counter, or buy a postal money order or something comparable. Something that may not be doable from a kiosk? I really have no idea, we're not so advanced here in Alabama as to have kiosks at the PO :hihi:.
I'm pretty honest about what I'm sending and receiving. I even opened up some fish once in the post office ~ my postmaster used to keep bettas and that's what I was getting that day, so I showed them off. ;) He didn't have a problem with it. But the rules on shipping fish and other aquatic animals are iffy, so I've read about people saying their postmasters won't allow it. It just depends on the postmaster it seems.

Shipping plants hasn't been a problem for me either, though I've heard some people tell of having problems with it if there is a good bit of water in the bag.
gotta love irony, went to the po a hour or so ago to ship some plants with every intention to tell them i had plants and they were in fact perishable and guess what....... didnt even get asked!

None of their business? What postal service do you use? Its ALL their business!
Yeah man, it's definitely their business. What if you were smuggling drugs, or shipping Anthrax?
Any package 13 ounces or over MUST be presented to a Clerk. Not 11 ounces.

Click and Ship is the best way to go. That or the PayPal "Print Shipping" button.

Hey Rex,

What about pick up at the door, etc? Is that considered the same?(-being delivered to the "clerk")
Let me think.........Nope. It MUST be presented to a clerk. But that's ONLY for items with stamps.

If you use Click and Ship or PayPal to print the label you can hand it to the carrier.

Over 13 ounces with stamps MUST be presented to a clerk. No exceptions.
Yeah, think about it. If you're doing Click 'N Ship or Paypal you had to put in some sort of payment and address info. You're leaving a paper trail. Or an electronics trail these days I guess :hihi:.
