Assassin snails are killing my shrimps!!!

I got 3 assassin snails to eat my pond snails but they ended up eating my CRS/CBS. How the heck do they catch them? I think its when the shrimps are molting because I saw one of the dead shrimp half molted.

I heard that assassin snails are too slow for shrimps but I guess not. I'm removing them from my shrimp tank. So mad right now!!

Oh yeah, I'm sure the shrimps weren't dead before the snails started eating them because I have had any dead shrimps until I added the assassin snails. The first day I added the assassin snails I saw one eating a shrimp but I just though it was a probably a dead one prior. Then every day after that I started seeing more dead shrimps and the snails eating them.

It is usually rare but it does happen. Most of the time it is that they are eating dead or dying shrimp and not that they killed them. When a shrimp dies, like during a molt, they will be on top of them in no time.

Yeah, I'm sure it was during molting.
Is it possible it was a unsuccesful molt?

I don't think so. I haven't had an unsuccessful molt since I first starting keeping CRS/CBS about a year ago. I saw the assassin snail eating a CBS that was half molted. Half of the shell was sticking out. I think the other dead one was the same case. Do shrimp stay still for a while right before their molt?
They are somewhat immobilized during the molt. It seems that occasionally a snail will be more aggressive or maybe they even learn how to take a shrimp. I guess it is possile they could lean a skill. I would remove them and put them in a non-shrimp tank or give/sell them to someone with a warning no to keep them with shrimp.

You seem to have gotten a rare aggressive snail.

I moved them to my 60-F tank. They were probably hungry ass hell. I got them from a fish store the had them in a bare bottom discus tank. I don't even know how they survived in there.
That may have played into it. he cat is probably out of the bag now. They will eat sinking pellets or algae wafers if needed.

As soon as I moved the assassin snails I started to see some of my shrimp coming out from hiding. Did the shrimps know it was being hunted?
If the snail(s) were hunting them, they likely knew it!!!
Did you find the shrimp being in eaten in the morning when you turned the light on?
At least you figured out what you did that caused these CRS/CBS deaths... They aren't called assassin snails because they are polite and discrete. At least assassins primarily focus on their targets. Perhaps they should be renamed massacre or terminator snails due to their high levels of collateral damage.

Funny!

Yeah, I would find them attached to them. Some I would find their shells and NO its not from molt because molt are clear shells. These shells had fadded red, white, and black on it and the eyes are still there (black). It like sucked out all the meat from the inside.

Yeah, I know...I gotta go some more shrimps now. I had like 10 or so in there and now I'm only seeing about 3-4.
I had some RCS deaths and I always found them dead or just stiff in the morning when I woke up. I could leave the tank all day 10-13 hours during the day and everything would be fine. Turn off the lights and wake up in the morning with shrimp immobile assumed dead.
