AS Powder Qs

980 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  George
I'm tearing down my current nano layout and will be trying out Aqua Soil Amazonia Powder (+mulm) as a new substrate.

I will also be using ADA Bright Sand as a foreground. Does this need cleaning?

I have been advised to pre-soak the powder for a couple of hours is it can have bouyancy issues.

Do any of you have experience with the Powder variety of Aqua Soil?

Any tips are much appreciated.

Thanks.

I personally would not use the powder. I have used it before and it creates a much bigger mess that the normal aquasoil. As for the bright sand, I've used it to and you should wash it first. It is quite powdery out of the bag and you will get cloudy water from it.

I already have the powder so will be using it. It will be an ultra-low maintenance layout so mess shouldn't be an issue once I've planted.

Did you pre-soak it?
I didn't presoak, may not be a bad idea to presoak as the floating pieces will most likely mix with the sand. The problem was if you ever mess with the substrate it got 10 times cloudier with powder than it did with the regular version.

Thanks again. I'm hoping once I've installed the hardscape and planted, that I will hardly need to touch the substrate. If I do I have 16x turnover rate so the water should clear fairly quickly.
