I was charged 40 cents over the flat rate price listed for a small priority box. So instead of paying $5.20 I was charged $5.60. I also had 5 cents added onto another box. Does anyone know why this is?

The counter worker might not have noticed what kind of box it was. I have had that happen a few times. You might have to point it out to them.

Also paying online is cheaper than going to the post office.

Its only a few cents so I wouldn't bother. Just get it online next time. Much easier.

Was it at a post office or a postal annex type place? Those mom and pop places add markups, especially on international. I got nailed to the wall on an international once and when I went back, they just looked at me like I was an idiot and said "yeah..and?" I don't go there anymore.

The fuel cost of going to the postal office again will be greater than the money refunded. Unless you can walk there.

I will probably just let it go since I don't want to have to deal with the line or try to explain to them what a small flat rate box is....again. "do you have any small flat rate priority boxes?" all I got is blank stare in return

When I take flat rate boxes in I have the same issue. When you go to the PO and pay for postage at the actual office you pay for a tracking number, when you do it all online it's free. Could that be the reason for you?

If you do it online, you'll get a free tracking number and delivery confirmation. You have to pay for it otherwise.

Online is $5 instead of $5.20 AND you can leave it in your mailbox for the postal carrier to pick up. I always keep a couple of the small and medium at home so I rarely have to go to the P.O.

If you noticed you were paying more, why didn't you bring it up and have them look it up, they will show you the prices on their terminal screen.
