They are roots and you can trim them. Albeit tedious considering they usually show on a mature plant thats ready to be cut and replanted anyway. Most folks plant a midground plant in front of them to hide them from view.
I see, can I ask you another question? How do you trim and replant rotalas? Theyve already grown side shoots out of them. There are a bunch of smaller stems growing out of the main stems. I have the 'green' and 'nanjenshan?' species. They are roots and you can trim them. Albeit tedious considering they usually show on a mature plant thats ready to be cut and replanted anyway. thank youThat kinda depends on a few things. If I have a bunch of them to trim and replant I cut the tops 2-3 inches from the substrate. Them I pull the old ones out and replant the tops according to height(tallest in the back). If I only have a few, I leave the cut part in to grow new tops over the next few weeks. I like to start out with fresh 8-10" tops.
