Crypts are never beyond salvation.
There are however no pictures on that link you posted.

Pull them clean them and replant them. If you cant clean it trim it.

I agree with this. Last week at work I had hair algae, green spot, diatoms, staghorn, and whatever other alge you can name all over a crypt. So I took it out and took a paper towel and wiped it clean. Trmmed any that was not coming clean or was beyond hopeless and all was fine.

thats nothing. I had received some that had melted totally down to the stem. I let them float till they started to throw out a little green leaf and then plant them. Now they have grown to nice foot tall beasts that are totally taking over my tank.

Yup, as long as the rhizome is nice and firm the leaves will come back even if you have to remove all of them to start with.
