In an effort to save money I was browsing ebay and found these:

They come in a box of 50. The seller claims they are 48" X 54W, 5000K, T5HO bulbs.


What do you guys think? Worth a try?

you have to buy 50 of them for the $160 plus shipping to try them at that price. If you could get a couple for a low price, that would be something to consider, but not if you have to buy 50 bulbs.

Depends on what you want them for. If it's for a plant farm, then they'd be great. If it's for a show tank, I'd pass.

I personally don't like 5000k light, it's really yellow and "dim" to my eyes.

That's a lot of tubes to keep on hand unless you can unload some at a local fish or plant club. I'd want to mix them with some 6500K or 10,000K for appearance. If you go with them, please let us know how it works out for your.
