I've been doing some searching and much to my surprise, manzanita is another word for a group of trees belonging to the arbutus genus. Well, I am lucky enough living on the beautiful northwest coast (BC, Can) that we have native arbutus here. THey are a yellow listed species, meaning by law you are not allowed to touch, or cut down any of these trees without permits. However, privately owned trees do not fall under this rule and I have found on my local freecycle group a whole lot of arbutus branches from a big trim.

My question is, will boiling and soaking be enough to prep these for an aquarium? I'm pretty sure they will sink, but not positive, arbutus is pretty dense.

Anyways, love to here any thoughts.

I'm in a similar boat, except I think I found a few pieces of arbutus washed up on Vancouver island. The wood looks just like manzanita, but I wanted to know what steps I should take to make sure it's aquarium safe...

Sorry to bump this old thread, but thought it'd be better than starting a new one.

Cheers,
Alym
