I just got a 300 watt Aqueon heater for my 55 gallon aquarium
and it's been at 65F for 4 hours... I've got one of these heaters
for my 30 gallon and it works great. Anyone know what
I can do? I just need to heat the water to 72-73F...

Did you turn the heater to the correct temp whilst it was switched on ? Unplug it, turn to the correct temp and see if that helps.
I use the same heater for my 75 gallon, set at around 78 degrees so i know it will easily heat a 55.

Another question, did you just put the tank up? I have 300W hydor inline on the 75 and it pulls temp up from 65 at water changes to 79 degrees in about an hour to 1.5 hours.
