Yes they are moving. Last time I was in there an employee mentioned that. I don't recall where they said the new location was.
I was in there about 6 weeks ago. The girl working there said they were moving into a bigger place. She also said that they were going to have a large dedicated area for aquatic plants. She made it sound like they were already working in the new area so it doesn't sound like there will be a lot of down time. She didn't say the exact location just that it was down the street. I just hope a larger location doesn't mean their prices are going up as well. They are already on the high side.

Any new info on the store? According to their website they are in their new location but still getting everything set up.
I stopped in a couple weeks ago, the new store is amazing (even though they were still setting up).
They have started importing some beautiful, unique tanks from Greece. They really stepped up their game on the hardware side. There is a little bit more space for livestock with the new layout.

Not much livestock yet. there seems to be a decent plant selection, though
I was out looking at some properties today and was in the area, so I stopped by. They were in the process of stocking the tanks. There is still quite a way to go, but they were getting quite a variety in the tanks they are stocking. Worth heading in to check it out.
The amazing news is that they are planning on building a stack of tanks for micro fish and shrimp.
Shrimp of the same species will be separated (as much as possible) to prevent interbreeding within the system.
It will be awesome to have a decent selection of micro fish.
They are importing Bettas and have a large selection of healthy, well bred fish. There were a few of what has become the standard for pet store betas, poorly bred veil tails, but there weren't many. A lot of good looking crown tails, half moons, and elephant ears. Not quite the top level show Bettas, but most had even tails and look healthy, they would show well. Colors aren't even or solid, but they look like they should have good genes. I haven't bred show Bettas, but I looked into them a little bit, so take that with a grain or two of salt.
The plants are looking decent too. They may start carrying tissue cultures (I should hve asked), they had some Altherner Renekki mini(sp???). There had to be close to a dozen for eleven bucks. Too many for what I have room for.

I had some crazy snail outbreaks in the past.
With a densly planted dirt tank, it is next to impossible to keep them under control. Crushing and small puffers couldn't keep things under control.
The last few tanks weren't too bad as I would go through each plant individually and inspect every leaf and scrape off egg sacs or trim. It worked really well on the last tank and with a few vases I did. Only missed one ramshorn that popped up out of nowhere almost fully grown. It didn't self fertilize, but did leave a couple egg sacs. The wost was one of the vases that ended up with a few mini rams horns, but I got all but one out (intentionally) before they started breeding. It was an extremly tedious process, but worth it in the long run.
This tank is purely tissue cultured and I plan to keep it that way, if I can. Not all species I am interested in are tissue cultured, but I found a place that tissue cultures buce and also has some tissue cultured petite nana, as well as some others, so I am considering rearranging things a little. Hopefully aquatic wildlife will start carrying tissue cultures as they are a great store with an awesome staff and they may become my local shop soon.

We still have them listed as a sponsor for CTARS (CT reef club) and there were updates in Dec with no menton of closing. I also don't recall them having any plants.

They closed the retail shop, but now have a location in a commercial building. They are by appointment only.
What are you considering your local area?
There were some eally good plant enthusiasts in central and western MA, but Qwe is in Oregon now and it looks like h4n hasn't been active in a while. I used to travel between MA and Philly for a long distance relationship and I would stop at various places along the way, but that has been done for a while.
Aquatic Wildlife has a decent selection, Wet Pets has a bunch of Tropica tissue cultures, but they don't maintain them well, School of Fish has a lot of the standards, Ned's is too far if you are in CT to make a trip just for that, not sure what Fintastic of Blake's aqua den carries they may both be strictly salt water (Actually, Blake's may be the one I stopped in a couple years ago that had a good selection of fresh and salt with plants and shrimp. Really good prices and variety, but I don't remember where in CT that was). There are a bunch of shops around the souther coast, but they mostly focus on coral. There are some decent places in RI as well. There used to be a really great shop in Northampton, MA that ended up closing. They catered to higher end tanks, plants, fish, and shrimp but unfortunately the market for that isn't strong enough out here. There location was tucked down a side street as well, which didn't help much.
I mostly end up getting stuff at the auctions, but QWE gone and not driving PVAS anymore, I'm not sure how well the auction will be stocked on olants this year. Always plently of jungle val and java moss laced with a half ton of duckweed (astranomical prices for the java moss, one of the fasted items to get bid up. And I swear that some of the people take a mat of java moss and use it to skim the duckweed out of their tank then fold up he mat to hide all of the duckweed in the center). The TFSRI auction has some plants as well, but it can be sparse at times.
The NEC convention usually has a bunch of vendors. There used to be a guy on here that would take special orders and show up with tons of stuff. Tissue cultured and submersed with no snails. Really great quality. I only went once or twice and only showed up on the auction day, but there are lots of good talks and a lot of stuff on display.
I've almost placed orders with online vendors, but never end up getting around to it as I usually end up finding stuff locally or from local hobbiests.

Exotic Fin & Feather closed a few months ago, they initially said they would open a new store, but those plans fell through. Blake's has a nice selection of freshwater fish, not a ton of plants. WorldWide in New Haven did have some TC plants a few months ago, a few days ago they really didn't have much for plants. All Pets Club normally has a pretty good plant selection, other than that Petsmart and Petco both normally have TC plants now.

Bump: So here's a picture of a TC plant from Petco in Bridgeport from back in October, never seen TC cups at Petco before. I didn't actually get a picture of the front of the package or the plant.

I never had much luck with Exotic Fin & Feather either fresh or salt. Aquatic Wildlife has much healthier livestock. People like to complain about their prices, but they are the healthiest
Yeah, Aquatic Wildlife's livestock is well taken care of.
And the store was always clean and organized. I'm sure the new location will stay that way too.
Now that I think about it, I'm not sure that I ever picked up any livestock at Exotic, maybe just a mushroom (coral) once. I've picked up hardware on several occasions as they had a few things that were hard to find and were priced competitively.

I went in there this past week. There are def expanding their planted tank stuff. But honestly they are super expensive. they are still getting their act together at the new store but i did pick up a great looking ozelot sword there this week. I can tell you that wet pets in vernon is starting to ramp up their planted stuff they have tissue culture plants there and they are setting up a new planted tank and they are working on getting a co2 fill up over there. i went in there this week too. Daves soda city in agawam/springfield (its right by the big e) has plants, just make sure to clean em good lots o snails, but the awesome thing about daves is they always have a ton of stuff on sale, (i went on a daves spree last september, i seriously went to 3 of his stores, one is also in stafford next to the big y there no plants but good sales on misc stuff and got 3 tanks set up all 50 to 75%off the planted substrate and odds and ends). also if you know exactly what you want for plants or fish, go see alex at alex's advanced aquatics in enfield. he doesnt really keep plants there but seriouly just tell him what you want and he can get it. he is awesome. i go there allllllll the time. its a tiny local fish place but seriously he is great. theres my 2 cents. now if ican just finish piecing together my new pressurized co2 system without losing my mind ill be ok ... exotic is relocating somewhere near wet pets but they are taking a break i guess for a bit (last time i talked to one of the owners was in like sept or october) .. i used to work there in my college days when they had the really big store..
