I am looking at a pygmy croaking gourami heavily planted tank mostly crypts and hair grass 30x12x14 tank. I like the sound and look of Aquasoil and the tannin release and pH lowering as this is the enviroment the fish loves. Just cant really understand if the powersand is also a good buy to put with the aquasoil do I need both. There wont be rescaping once planted only the occassional prune. And I read that you dont need as much aquasoil as other substrates is this true?

I read heaps but some of the threads got a bit technical and I couldnt find the answer. Would really appreciate a little advice. Thankyou:iamwithst

The powersand is optional.

I doubt it. Even if it is the most nutritional substrate available, you'd still need depth so the plant's roots can flourish and take hold.
