Single tail goldfish can get to 12-14" excluding fins and need a lot of swim room. If you want it in a tank I'd recommend 5-6 FOOT long tank so they have some swim room (but you could get away with 4 feet long ) that's 18 wide to comfortably turn around in, or a large pond. Dunno about finding a tank under 18" high aside from a 40g breeder but that wont' fit the HOB, and a comment gets pretty big for that size tank (btw 40g is the recommended minimum for 1 single tail goldfish-so no other stock in tank if you get 40g). You can try asking local pet stores if they can special order in larger tanks and see what prices they have.

You might want to think about moving the tank to a different location and getting a 75-120g tank, depending on if you want other stock and if you are going to keep it till it's fully grown. Or look into donating it to a pond. I have 3 comets and they are wonderful fun beautiful fish, but they do need a lot of space.

40g Breeder 36.2" long x 18.3" wide x 17" high
40g Long 48.3" long x 12.8" wide x 16.9" high

both could fit under the cabinet and both provide nearly as much surface area as a 50g

50g 36.4" x 18.4" x 19"

surface area trumps volume

and don't listen to those naysayers, good on ya for raising up a healthy fish for all them years, most would have tossed it as a feeder 8yrs ago

and good on ya for wanting to double+ its tank size; it was healthy in a 20g it'll be that much healthier in a tank double+ its current size

Look on craigslist for used 40g's or get a 40g Breeder at PetCo for $40 before May 7, 2016
