Current Setup:

This tank has been set up for a little over a month. There have been some changes but not too much. Sorry for all of the dirtiness of the tank, I just was vacuuming it and doing some water changes!

Specifics:
Tank: Rimless 5.5g (found without any tag at my LPS~$5:))
Substrate: Play Sand and Gravel (thinking about Eco-Complete or the other one...)
Lighting: 1 6500K 15W CFL bulb
Filter: Whisper 10i (going to upgrade soon)
Ferts: Flourish and soon Excel

Flora:
Java Fern (Microsorum pteropus)
Rotala rotundifolia
Micro Chain Sword (Micro Echinodorus tenellus)
X-Mas Moss (Vesicularia montagnei)
Moneywort (Bacopa monnieri)

Fauna:
x1 Dwarf Puffer named Joey (Carinotetraodon travancoricus)~such a large scientific name for such a small fish!

Original Tank Setup:
8/2/12

And a Picture of Joey:

Quick question: does anyone have the Marina S10 Power Filter by Hagen? I am thinking about ordering it off of amazon, it seems to have plenty of good reviews but I wanted to know if you have personal experience. Also, I can't seem to find the GPH on it. Does anyone know that? Joey is a messy eater...
Just got a heater for the tank! I still think that it needs some tweaking. Any opinions? Revolver Gadget Plastic Electric blue Fictional character

Great find on that rimless tank for $5. I think it looks good and it has definitely progressed since the initial setup.

Thanks! When I went to the store that day I hadn't planned on buying a tank, however I saw that one with out any size information or anything and I had to have it. So it became mine...

And thank you! I'm liking the way that it's going, although I think that it still has a ways to go;)
That Whisper 10 should be fine for that tank why are you changing it?

It pushes everything around with it's outflow. Plus it's intake is very strong too and I'm scared that Joey will end up on the bottom of the filter and not be able to swim away and die. But that's just my (hopefully) irrational fear.
I have very sad news to report. After coming home from tutoring some of my neighbors I was about to feed Joey some bloodworms and medication for internal parasites. I couldn't find him. Eventually I ended up taking out all of the wood pieces, shifting around all of the plants and looking around the tank in case he some how got a sudden urge to sum up all of his might and jump out of the tank. I looked and looked and hadn't seen a single bit of his puffer goodness... I opened up the filter and took out the media (here's where it turns bad *readers discretion advised*) In it was poor little Joey. His eye's were white and his body was bent in ways his little body shouldn't have been.

I cried my eyes out. It was so so so so so so so sad. I don't know what to do now. I'm torn between getting a new puffer fish or trying my hand at something else... I don't know, I'm still in morning so I don't have to...

RIP Joey! You'll be in my heart forever!!!<3
Poor Joey. I'm sorry for your loss.

Have you considered placing some type of plastic mesh over the intake of your filter? It should help lower the flow as well as keep things away from the impeller. I usually use the plastic netting that limes and onions come in and it seems to work well.

Whether you get another puffer or not I wouldn't give up on the tank. If you want a small fish that's similar and tons of fun (imo) you might try bumblebee gobies. They prefer small live food like brine shrimp over flake but the extra effort is well worth it. And hell, if you need em I'll send you a few million brine shrimp eggs free of charge.

Thank you. I was looking at the bottom of my filter and it has VERY small intake holes so I'm sorta wondering about that... But I'm hopefully getting a new filter soon with a sponge intake so I won't have to worry about that, but I'll do that right now. I think that we have some of that mesh somewhere in this house.

I've always seen the bumblebee gobies. I've heard about them a few times too, but it's always been about how grumpy they are. It's interesting to hear that they're fun:). I don't know. I have left over bloodworms from Joey, so I would have a small food supply;)

:( sorry to hear this
Thank you for the kind words. He'll be missed.
Oh by all means they are grumpy little fellas but I think that adds to their fun. They like to kind of crawl along the bottom of the tank finding small crevices to tuck into and camp out in. They remind me of say a grumpy old recluse that lives in a cave - by all means miserable but in a cute misunderstood way ;)
