Appreciate any experience & options

Are they necessary for added flow through media? Or for just the ease of removing/replacing filter media. I use seachem matrix bio then cut pads to on top. My AC70's basket broke and it's $12 on amazon.

I was taking a look at that thread before, but this is filter is still working great and I like aquaclears(knock on wood).

I think she has an Aquaclear 70 (AC 70)

They aren't necessary. I took the one out of my 110 and had it running for years without it. Only reason I stopped using it was because the plastic filter itself broke.

Thanks Calmia, I'm going to give it shot, and give the media a little more breathing room.
