aquaclear biomax how good?

hi all,
i've aquaclear 150 in my 20gal tank for 2 years now.
i've biomax in there.
does it need to be replaced some period of time....
i thought it holds bacteria so i left it there.....

i still hv some more room in my filter should i add one more biomax to build up bacteria or can i use seachem matrix instead...

is it good practice?

p.s. i'm cycling my tank with new fish and plants at the moment so wondering if this will help in the long run to build up good bacteria in one more add on biomax or matrix.....

good to hear.

thanks

you'll likely find mulm build up on the biomax mesh bag. i normally just shake the bag off a bucket of water during a WC and replace into the filter.

Matrix is pretty much serves the same purpose as the biomax so it would be redundant. Adding more to top up the filter compartment wouldnt hurt as it increases the surface area for bacteria to grow.

only tip would be to clean only one of the medias at any given time, so if you were to clean out the foam sponge, leave the biomax alone, and vice versa. any cleaning would pertain to shaking loose debris from the media in tank water.

sounds good.thanks for the info.
yes indeed i'm doing only spraying sponge but not the biomax not even shake it yet.
sure i've some more room in it so i'll add another one more layer of biomax.
i just thought maybe that will help to keep my tank healthy to grow bacteria as i've some room in the filter.
