found many different answers. my lfs didnt give me a straight
answer either. would like to hear you guys suggestions.

You can set it on high and see how much flow in the tank, if the plants are gently swaying and the fish are swimming comfortably, then it's good, otherwise adjust it. You can also hang it on side to cover the whole tank.

I set it to the lowest flow after cleaning the fluval intake filter during a water change then slowly increase the flow throughout the week as that prefilter clogs up.

I find with the Aquaclear if you have your water levels high enough, the outflow won't disturb your tank as much, it'll flow around the surface rather than water-falling into you tank.

I've always used max flow, unless you see fish getting stuck or plants getting up-rooted. Another suggestion is to use a sponge on the inflow, but remember to clean it to maintain high output.
