I found this cheap little reactor on ebay and i can power it with my rio 180. I tried making a diy reactor but just kept messing up with it and breaking them. Would using a reactor device like so be more effective than using a glass diffuser that makes a mist that goes up into my powerhead inlet?

Pretty much this reactor vs. your typical glass diffuser...

I don't have one of these to use it but looked at your link. Appears to be a simple down flow reactor. The bio-balls are not needed. I use Rex style PVC DIY down flows to good effect. Its cheap enough. (hate imports but what can we do?)

you can make a reactor with pvc. Here's what i did to a cheap sports waterbottle. I dont have a canister filter but I do have a powerhead at rated at 160 gph which runs the reactor. so far so good except for a small leak so thats why its pictured disconnected. The output goes to a pvc spray bar i made.
