Hope I posted this in the correct section.

I have a question about a LIGHT-GLO fish tank that was ORIGINALLY purchased in Germany. These tanks are also available in other parts of Europe & in most parts of Canada. In the USA I don't think there's any local distributors or stores that carry this brand.

  • The filter is a Flu 2 Plus - C-35033 - Askoll - Made in Italy AC 230-240V 50Hz - Manufactured 01/04 = 6Watts
  • The heater is a Tronic 100W I'm guessing.
  • There's also an elite air pump, didn't bother looking at it because I was disappointed at the corner.
  • Light fixture is STRANGE. It's a DUAL, 24" Aqua-Glo T8, but it uses ROUND European plugs.
  • Also the light fixture doesn't have reflective aluminum, instead it has some sort of white plastic.
The big issue I saw when I looked at this tank was the BOTTOM left edge. The glass is intact, not chipped, but it's CLEARLY separated from the black silicone seal.

  • I'm also wondering if anyone KNOWS of another GOOD brand of tank manufacturer that uses BLACK silicone & does a GOOD job with the edges?

I've seen the various tanks they have on display @ Petsmart & Petco, but the silicone edges are HORRIBLE. Extremely messy.

  • The Deep Blue Professional Tanks I've come across so far all have SMOOTH corners & nice CLEAN black silicone seals.
  • The only issues is the store I've seen them at the LARGEST DBP tank they carried was a 20L.

If anyone can direct me to any more information about this tank I would REALLY appreciate it. I can't find much other than a few OLD threads & various pictures of different sized LIGHT-GLO tanks like 5G & 10G, but they're located in Canada.

I can post those pictures of the other LG black silicone tanks later if anyone is interested.

Thanks in advance...

Here's some photos of the tank I saw last night.

I had that tank in 33 gallons. It is a Hagen brand I think. Mine had straight pin light plugs though (Canadian here).

It was my very first tank when I got back to the hobby, and it was great. I spraypainted the inside of my light housing white (mine didn't have the reflectors). It could grow low light plants pretty well. I only sold it because I got an ADA tank :)

If the silicone has separated from the glass I would be hesitant though, especially since it is rimless.

Thanks Dim,
You have a 50G DBP Breeder? I would love to see some photos of that tank. $120 seems like a good price, I was quoted $100 for a 40G DBP Long at one of my local shops.

Thanks Jag,
The silicone on the tank looked at was compromised at the bottom left corner. Thought I had my flashlight, but left it behind. Anyway, it made me reconsider the tank all together because I don't want the tank bursting on me at a later date after it's all setup. Still having second thoughts because I might be able to plug the corner with some NEW silicone & use the back @ of the tank as the NEW front.

The tank hasn't been filled since the owner moved back to the US. But I suspect that corner was damaged during shipment.

Are you 100% positive your pre-ADA 33G Hagen is RIMLESS?

I also noticed your 33G tank does NOT have the bottom lip.

Here's some other HAGEN or LIGHT-GLO tanks that I found while I was doing some research. The smaller one looks like a 5G.

Yup, mine was definitely rimless (though the lid might make it look like it has an upper rim). It would actually be a pretty cool base tank, since black silicone rimless tanks seem hard to find in some areas.

Here are some pics of when I got it - I snagged it from a local classified site and paid peanuts for it ($40 and it came with an Eheim Ecco 2234) but it was EXTREMELY dirty and a nightmare to get clean. Still more than worth it, even for just the filter alone which I use today in my 60-P lol :)
