Anybody out there using a multi-switched fixture, with half the bulbs on part of the time and all the bulbs on part of the time? Under what conditions did you decide to do this, and what kind of results are you getting?

I have my lights on 4 hrs off 3 or 4 hours then back on for 4 hours. I was having big algae issues and I don't use co2 in any if my tanks. It has made that problem disappear.

I have a 6x54w T5HO Tek fixture on my 120g. I run 2x54w all day, with a midday burst of all 6 bulbs for 2 hours.

So it goes:

3 hours: 2x54w
2 hours: 6x54w
3 hours: 2x54w.

Works well for me. The tanks is full of anubias, crypts, and java fern. Came to this schedule after trial and error. I wanted as much light as possible for growth while minimizing algae.

Addendum: The 6x54w TEK fixture is entirely too much for what I use it fore, but I got it on a really good deal and used to use it on a stem-plant 75g tank.
