I recently put Water Lettuce in a 20L and it is THRIVING. I absolutely love the look of the roots, but it's already clear that I need to take efforts to keep it in check otherwise this will be pretty much a Water Lettuce Only tank.

What I'd love to do is have Water Lettuce growing in the back half of the tank, that way I can get light down to my lower plants and maintain access to the fish in the tank. I thought about some sort of barrier, but I tried a floating ring initially and the plant sent a runner right under it for a new plant to plop up in the middle.

I'm curious if anyone has dealt with this before - I'd love any tips!

stuff grows like crazy. your best bet is to just take handfuls out of the tank every week or two. you can sell the plants or just throw them out. definitely recommend using that plant in a fish tub or pond

I had some volunteer in a tank once...

...that "some" rapidly turned into a nuisance that threatened to take over my tank and keep light from the rest of my plants!

The way I got it under control was regular manual removal with a broad fish net. In your case, you could use the net to keep the amount down to "half-ish." As far as localizing it, what about putting a spray bar on the front of the tank? If you have a rimmed aquarium you could conceal it and it would effectively "push" the little buggers towards the back of the surface. No idea if this would actually work--just a silly thought. :p

Not much you can do about it other than prune and remove runners that reach out of the ring. Over time, the ring will semi sink due to infiltration of water into the hose. My solution is to glue plastic floaters to keep the ring afloat.

This is what I do too, But I use a 1 to 1 airline connector to close the loop. I don't seem to have issues with these sinking at all.
