Don't expect much from the critter for credit. I gave them a bunch of plants, that they put a price on, which retailed for over $60 based on their prices. I got a $6 credit. With this it isn't even worth me driving to the critter.

FYI, my sis has a bunch of bright yellow neos she is willing to part with some.
Somehow I figured as much with the Critter. :/

Does your sister live in Nashville too? I would just love to have the bright yellows as well as the orange. I do have more tanks I can set up (although my husband might kill me). :icon_eek:

I'm assuming it's not a good idea to put the orange and yellow together unless I plan to have a lot of culls (which I'm actually okay with if there's a chance of getting some interesting ones in there).

Didn't want either of you guys to think I had forgotten about you. I do still want shrimp AND plants. We're self employed and money is tight at the moment, and unfortunately for me, shrimp are not a necessity. :( Things should look up in the next week, and I'll be ready for shrimp. This has given me plenty of time to think about how badly I really do want them....lol. :)

I thought you were probably waiting for the ones in the more normal pH tank to grow out a bit. They're still pretty small yet. So no rush.

Congratulations on your first batch of shrimp! I have found the cherry shrimp to be very easy to care for and keep happily breeding. Mine are like roaches, I give and give them away but they are still everywhere!

I'm in Middle Tennessee too. I live in Lafayette & work in Gallatin.

I got my first 8 RCS from Critter on Sunday. They're in a 1/2 thickly planted low tech 20L with 6 rasbora, a clown plec & 3 pygmy cories.

I've been caring for freshwater fish off & on since 1993, but burned myself out on the bigger fish after a few years with discus. We have thinned down our active tanks to 1 discus tank, 1 angel tank, 2 guppy tanks & the above mentioned shrimp setup.

Since it's the wrong time of the year to consider shipping, I'm hoping to head to Pet Central in Bowling Green, KY this weekend to see if they still have any RCS, rasboras or pygmy cories in stock so I can double the quantity in the tank (after QT) with stock from another source to strengthen the bloodlines if/when they start breeding.

Anyway, hi fellow local shrimpers! I know I still have a lot to learn about proper plant & shrimp care, but at least it's cheaper to make mistakes than the thousands we spent on discus. :icon_lol:

How many of you guys are still on this thread? I know zero people in Nashville that keep aquariums. I'm up for swapping/selling plants and livestock. Got a whole bunch of baby peacock gudgeons from a pair in my shrimp tank. Just curious to see who is still around.

I'm still around. I am keeping orange neos that are breeding like crazy. I'm also trying CRS in a different tank, but in tap water instead of RO, which so far isn't really going so well. I lose one or two a week in a slow decline.

I'm still here too. I'd definitely be interested in meeting with local hobbyists & possibly doing some fauna/flora swaps.
We have a surplus of:
  • assassin snails
  • guppies
  • endler hybrids
  • marbled longfin ancistrus 1"-3.5" long (aka bristlenose plecs)
  • albino longfin ancistrus 1"-3.5" long (aka bristlenose plecs)
  • a few white albino longfin ancistrus 1"-2" long (aka bristlenose plecs)
  • a few spare angelfish
  • a few spare tanks (90g drilled for a sump, six 14g-15g acrylic display tanks from a big box store that closed)
We might also have some spare plants or cuttings, if needed.
They're not fish related, but we are also getting rid of all of our guinea pigs (2 males & 2 females left) & cages (3 left), if any of you know anyone looking for some.

We are mainly interested in shrimp, flame moss, Christmas moss, spare lighting, spare CO2 equipment, shrimp safe fertilizers or unique fish, but enjoy checking out pretty much everything.

Since I previously posted, I've made the following changes to my 20L RCS tank:
  • Removed rasboras (moved to 54)
  • Removed clown plecs (moved to 55)
  • Removed 4 amazon swords (were too big)
  • Removed sponge filter
  • Removed two 24" fluorescent bulb units (ballast fried in one, so replaced with LED)
  • Temporarily added 6 baby albino ancistrus to grow out a little before moving them back to the ancistrus tank
  • Added 10 amanos
  • Added 12 super tigers
  • Added school of celestial pearl danios
  • Added Fluval 88g CO2 kit with paintball tank conversion
  • Added Eheim 2215 canister filter with a prefilter sponge
  • Added a 24" Current Freshwater Satellite Plus
  • Removing Penguin Biowheel 200 next week (giving canister time to seed bacteria first)

February 2015 (started CO2):

May 2015:

It is now about 80% thickly planted with anubias nana, bronze wendtii, java moss on driftwood, a large mossball, amazon swords & dwarf hairgrass. Once I get some mats of flame moss or Christmas moss, I'll do the final adjustments to the scape (removing remaining swords & decide to keep hairgrass, or not) and just sit back to enjoy it while I start tinkering with my 55g planted tank that I started CO2 on last month.
