Hello all,

I have just switched my tank from African cichlid to planted. Hopefully with my research and help from the fine folks on this forum all of the plants I have will flourish.

The tank is your standard 55 gallon setup with 2 HOB Emperor filters (400 and 280). I have 2-3 inches of sand blasting sand substrate (not the best but I love the look) with 60oz of laterite under the sand. The lighting is 160w NO (ge plant / aquarium bulbs), hopefully, this will be adequate for my chosen plants. I have all the equipment to setup DIY CO2 injection and will be doing that within the week.

What else can I do to ensure the health of my plants?

Water parameters are as follows (with my limited test kits):

PH: 8.4
GH 8 (140 ppm)
KH 7 (120 ppm)
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrite 0 ppm
Nitrate 10 ppm

Anyway, heres a pic of the setup (not aquascaped yet... we will see when they start growing good) any tips are welcome

Nice tank and welcome.. I am a newbie too :p
i think you should do some kind of dosing some macro nutrient NPK since u have a high light and CO2 injection.
Welcome!

Looks great! That is definatly a unique setup!

"unique" like weird? Am I violating some unwritten rules here? :bounce:

Please fill me in I know very little about this whole thing.

Regards
Unless you are going for a style (Natural, Dutch) there really aren't any rules AFAIK, just make it look fairly natural.

Speaking of which: The driftwood shooting an anachais stem is just a tad artificial. :icon_mrgr

If you are looking for comments on things to change: you also might want to open up, and spread out the anacharis clumps on the back right. Too clustered right now.
