Anchoring canvas to tank sides

1157 Views 8 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  RWaters
I have some cross stitch canvas I want to anchor to the side of a tank, preferably with less of a gap than what I have now using suction cups.

I'm thinking of trying aquarium putty, but not sure if that plays well with acrylic/glass and plastic mesh.

Anyone got any other ideas or have actually done the aquarium putty thing?

See if it will stick with superglue, you can always take it off with acetone or nail polish remover (same thing).

Damn, I see, acrylic, how about automotive double sided tape.

Is that safe? Actually I have some 3M VBH tape. I've never tried it under water tho...
What about aquarium safe silicon? Can you lower the water level enough to give it time to cure? Also, if you run to Walmart before that moss fills in, you can get some black mesh from the craft section to grow it on. Yes, super glue is safe. Use the gel type.

VHB probably isn't the best. If you use cyanoacrylate glue (super/Krazy), you may have an issue with the acrylic clouding. If you are starting dry, maybe the water proof Command strips would work?
What about cutting a slit in the canvas, taking the hook off the suction cup and feed the suction cup through the canvas. I believe your suction cup doesn't have any indention on the outside, only on the interior to capture the hook. I have some that have an indention on the outside and I use these for diy betta hammocks which work quite well
You could try polyester thermoplastic. I would use it to secure the canvas to suction cups. I have used it in my aquarium. For some reason, a lot of people use it to make teeth when they are missing teeth... Stuff is awesome though. Drop it in hot water, take it out, mold, let cool. Done. If you messed up, go to step one.

I did something similar a few years ago- I used the spines off of report binders, silicone them to the aquarium sides and slid the "canvas" in. Still holding up 4 years later.

I've used the report binders method myself. It works.
